Wet (and totally wild) Wednesday

It has been insanely humid in Halifax these days, so I was actually really grateful when it started to rain on the way to work this morning. That's actually saying a lot, because I hate rain. haha. It was wet all day, so hubby's ball game was cancelled, and it's looking like rain for the long weekend too, which is disappointing.

I got a 3.5km run in this morning before all the rain. It was difficult getting out of bed at 5 am and getting out the door but I knew I wouldn't get it in unless I did it this morning. I was glad I went once I got out there and pounded the pavement!!! When I got back I was starving though!

We had a delicious supper tonight: tilapia, sweet potato fries and roasted asparagus. YUM. Brian had a bit of a hankering for something sweet so I made him a 5 min mug chocolate cake. Lucky hubby!! :) My daughter loved supper, but she got fish everywhere!!! So I went to sweep it up after supper, and she "helped" me by also sweeping with her little broom. Has anyone else out there ever tried to sweep with an almost 2 year old "helper" around? It can be frustrating, but also cute. She loves to step in the dust and spread it everywhere with her broom, so it keeps me on my toes to do it quickly. Haha!

***Speaking of sweeping, as I was writing this, two glass pot lids randomly fell off their rack upstairs and shattered into a million pieces, so we had to go upstairs and sweep/vacuum...luckily, we have a Dyson to get all the little pieces of glass away from tomorrow's toddler toes. :)

I am going to spend some time in the next month or so deciding how I want to make this blog appear to the general public. I'll be working on the design, header & social media aspect of it as well as starting up some weekly posts. I am thinking of something along the lines of a "parenthood" weekly post. I'll keep you posted!! :)

Have a great Thurs/Fri!!

I don't wanna be another wave in the ocean

I have always had a bit of a thing for upbeat Bon Jovi songs...i.e. Who says you can't go home? This post's song title, Because we can, is no exception - the song just puts me in a good mood!! I realize I haven't been keeping up-to-date with this blog nearly as much as I planned to, but I was going through some issues trying to figure out a blogger account and linking it to my wordpress blog here that I am loving. A lot of the blogs that I follow are on Blogger, so I debated moving this whole blog over there to make it easier to connect with people, but then I would be losing some of my posts, and it was all a big headache!! What I did in the end was create a blog at heathershurrah.blogspot.ca where I have a link to this wordpress blog for people to check out if they come across it. We'll see how that works out :) I have also been busy tending to a sick toddler while my husband was away all last weekend, battling some minor illness myself, and BUSY BUSY BUSY with work stuff.

My "Journey 2 Wellness" has hit a couple of bumps in the road with being sick last week & hands full with a sick kiddo...but I did manage to stay mostly on track with my eating. It's my workouts that have suffered - sometimes I literally just found that I did not have the strength to do strength training, so I mostly have stuck with cardio lately. Our weeks of rain in the HRM did not necessarily improve anyone's mood or motivation, but the sun peeker out this past weekend and it was HOT out!! My main goal is to get back into the weight lifting this week & continue training for my later-in-the-summer 10Ks. It is back to rain, rain, rain yesterday and today...and I mean real TORRENTIAL rain so working out indoors is the way to go!!

I participated in a blogging activity called a Cara Box Exchange in May. You can read more about it on Kaitlyn's Wifessionals blog here. Basically:

Awesome things in the mail + Meeting new women + Encouragement = Cara Box

I sent a Cara Box to Nermisa who blogs over at Welcome to La La Land. You can see her post about the box I sent her today on her blog. The theme for the month of May was "regional" so you were supposed to send things from your region. I sent Nermisa a bunch of stuff from Nova Scotia, including Cape Breton maple liqueur, sand from Rainbow Haven beach, magnets on Nova Scotia beer caps with pictures of NS and things that she liked, some earrings made in NS, Nova Scotia coffee and Nova Scotia chocolate. It was fun putting it all together and I think she really liked it! Here are some pictures of the things I sent to her:

Melissa from Dreams and Colour sent me a Cara Box from various regions in Ontario!! Her box was so sweet and I had to remind myself to actually take a picture of the items before my husband devoured all the chocolate (haha - he didn't actually eat it all, but he did like it!). I just took the one picture, but I loved everything in this box!

It was so perfect! Melissa sent me postcards from various areas of Ontario, including Niagara Falls, which I LOVE, she sent me ice wine from the Niagara region, chocolates from Reid's Chocolates in Cambridge, and a book by Alice Munro which I will add to my summer reading!! The chocolates were SOOOO delicious including chocolate mint (my favourite) and tortoise which tasted like turtles (SO SO yummy). Thank you so much Melissa!!! Please check out her blog too - she has a giveaway going on right now and she is a fun and genuine blogger!!

I really enjoyed participating in the Cara Box exchange but I think I might skip out on it for the month of June because it is a VERY busy month and I want to be able to give it my all if I participate. I'll see what the topic is for July and try to participate again because it was a blast!!! Molly gets so excited when a package comes in the mail too...it is cute!! haha

I also wanted to share with you today a blog that I found a few months ago that I love...A Cup of Jo - Joanna lives in NYC with her husband who is also a writer, and her blog is full of interesting stuff all the time!! It will especially be interesting to other Mommies or anyone who loves NYC and wants to return there someday (like me!)

This week is busy - it is my husband's birthday tomorrow, our first frisbee game Thursday, and birthday parties all weekend for Molly's friends. It is also our one year anniversary on Sunday!! It has been a busy, interesting, and fun year of marriage and I think we have both learned a lot about each other. I read this article last week on marriage and found it really interesting. It has some great ideas to keep in mind.

June is looking like an insanely busy month, but I think July will be a bit more relaxed. I am really looking forward to this summer with Molly...I think she will love spending time outside and at the beach, and she is at a great age for a lot of activities around the province. I've pinned a few posts here, here, and here that have given me some summer ideas for her. Hard to believe my "baby" will be 2 in September!!
