I decided to post in bullet point/list form today with a few favourites for Friday. We are taking the girls camping for the first time this weekend tomorrow night - and SO excited! We're going with some friends to a very kid-friendly campground, so I think it will be fun. I haven't slept in a tent myself since before they were born, so I'm looking forward to it! Reading Lisa's post earlier this week helped me realize that I'm going to have to be a bit more relaxed when camping than I usually am - but I'm hoping the wine and the outdoors help with that! haha.
I'm also planning to spend some time tonight and tomorrow cleaning up around the house (fun, right?) after a VERY busy past few weeks!!
1) My 5 favourite books so far this year:
A Man Called Ove by Frederick Backman (this was an amazing audiobook)
Textbook Amy Krouse Rosenthal by Amy Krouse Rosenthal (I still feel like crying every time I think of this book)
Glass Houses by Louise Penny (released at the end of August, absloutely one of the best in the series and #13)
I have a post coming next week with a few analytic details about my reading life so far in 2017 - I decided to do up the stats for the first 6 months and then look at the latter 6 months of 2017 in September. That being said, I highly recommend any of the books listed above. They all blew me away.
2) 5 things I've eaten lately and loved:
- Broccoli stem salad: a delicious way to eat the neglected part of the broccoli
- Inside-out egg rolls
- Homemade greek yogurt (post also coming next week) with strawberries, hemp hearts, and walnuts <-- I've had this for breakfast every day this week
- Zoodles with pasta sauce, chicken, parmesan, and mozzarella cheese
- Bacon-wrapped eggs: We love these for breakfast but I cook them a bit longer because I don't like my eggs runny (I also add a bit of grated parmesan on top) GREAT to make ahead of time.
3) 5 posts of interest around the web:
- 10 useful HTML symbols for your blog
- Strength exercises to do at your desk
- This Youtube channel reads children's books aloud
- Favourite children's books (I can't get enough of these lists and the comments are amazing too)
- I wish I'd know about this way to carry a bucket car seat 3 years ago (Lucy weighed 9lbs14oz at birth, you guys)
4) 5 funny things:
5) 5 books I plan to finish this month:
Midnight at the Bright Ideas Bookstore (currently reading)
North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell (Erin's challenge - audiobook)
The Sisters Chase by Sarah Healy
What to Say Next by Julie Buxbaum (I loved Tell Me Three Things so I am hoping this one is just as good)
The Good Widow by Liz Fenton and Lisa Steinke

I think I might try the bacon wrapped eggs to make ahead and take to the shore.
ReplyDeleteI must get my hands on This Is How It Always Is ASAP.
Enjoy the camping!
p.s. bullet posts are my favorite
I love how you used bullet points for this post! Beartown is definitely at the top (if not THE top) of my books so far this year too. I can't wait to see your post about the analytics from the first half of the year- posts like that are always so fun to read. I was doing really good keeping a spreadsheet at the beginning of the year, but I've definitely slacked off and need to get back to updating it. Inside-out cabbage rolls sound delicious! I hope you guys have so much fun camping this weekend, I'm sure it will be full of so many fun memories!
ReplyDeleteBeartown and Ove were hands down, 2 of the best books I've read..they were so incredible in every way and I couldn't put them down.
ReplyDeleteHooray for a fun camping trip! I have to admit that I haven't been camping in ages, and I actually don't know if I've ever camped in a tent before. I'm looking forward to your analytical reading post! I always find those so interesting! And I'm so glad that you liked A Man Called Ove and Beartown! I'm going to be reading Beartown soon, and with the way that everybody's talking about it, I think that I'm going to love it!
ReplyDeleteI just started Ove. I have heard great things about it! I watched that car seat video earlier this week and need to try it next time I take Zoe out. She's a out 17 pounds now and that car seat weighs a good 10-11 without her in it sooooo I have been getting all the arm work outs just carrying her about! Hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteFun post. As I'm trying to dip my toe in the blogging game again, I might "steal" the list/bullet point of five things to give an update of my life.
ReplyDeletemm the things you've eaten lately all sound amazing. i love stats about reading so can't wait to see those. i have a couple of Julie Buxbaum books on my list but haven't read any. i know i've said it already but i hope you like North & South. I hope you 'like' the book but 'LOVE' the miniseries. please. haha.
ReplyDeleteLove this! Can't wait for the reading stats. I'm reading A Man Called Ove right now. Haven't had a ton of time for reading, but glad I finally got a bit in yesterday. :) I need to read NOrth and South. I've had the mini series but refused to watch before reading.. .and I started the book once but fizzled out. Sigh. That broccoli salad idea sounds great. I always feel bad for the discarded parts of food. LOL! XO - Alexandra
