"What's New With You?" link up with Kristen & Gretchen

What's New With You
When one of your favourite bloggers announces a fun link up idea, there is really no question about whether you're going to join in or not! Kristen and Gretchen just started this link up to chat about anything you'd like. They are following the idea that when you run into someone you haven't seen for awhile in person, you usually ask "so, what's new with you?" but these kinds of posts don't always happen frequently in the blog world. I wanted to link up today with some things I'm currently enjoying or thinking about :) Go over here to check out some other bloggers' posts...I know I'll be snooping through the link up!!

I'm CURRENTLY....

GRATEFUL for the fact that Brian was able to find the diamond from my engagement ring after it fell out of the ring setting last week. I had a panicky, anxious day looking everywhere in the house for it and when he came back from work, he unscrewed the trap from the kitchen sink and it was in there. PSA: If you have a warranty on jewelry like this, DO THE INSPECTIONS. Part of why I felt so bad was that if I had kept up with the bi-annual inspections, they would have replaced the diamond for free if we hadn't found it. I will absolutely be doing this from now on (also, it might have never fallen out in the first place...)

READING Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah...it's my first book by her and I'm reading it for Erin's Book Challenge 4.0. My plan is to read The Nightingale by her too.

LISTENING TO: The Arkells, all the time. Their concert here 2 weeks ago was AMAZING and I can't get their songs out of my head. My top three are Michigan Left, Book Club, and 11:11 right now.

DRINKING: Water, water, water, water and water. Plus 2 coffees and a decaf tea per day (on average). It's Roll up the Rim season here in Canada, so a Tim Horton's coffee isn't a bad thing occasionally too ;)

EATING: As many vegetables as possible. And a lot of protein too. Still loosely following IIFYM and trying to pick healthy choices whenever I can.

LOVING: Working part-time. It's been a bit of an adjustment, but I love the extra time at home to a) love on the girls, b) read millions of kid books every day and c) clean/meal prep/exercise/run errands during the daytime. I am also LOVING yoga once a week, but that is a whole separate post. It has been AMAZING for my mental and physical health.

ANTICIPATING a fun get-together with friends this weekend, spending more time with my baby niece this month, and a possible local weekend getaway with Brian in March

RECOMMENDING Modern Mrs. Darcy's podcast...I've mentioned it before, but it's just so good! We also just started Season 2 of Serial.

WORKING TOWARDS completing Erin's book challenge by the end of April. So many books that I requested ages ago at the library are available now, so I'm balancing reading those with challenge books, but I have a few categories completed and hoping for a few more by the end of Feb!!

CRAVING just a little bit more sleep, or an extra hour in the day :) Preferably an extra hour of daylight so that I can get a run in before bed :)

IMPRESSED WITH MEC's organization of their race series. My 5K run this past Sunday was a trail run on snowy, icy, trails, but it was fun, it was extremely well organized, and the ice obviously didn't bother me, because I ran the same time (35 mins) as I did 2.5 years ago at my last 5k. I am SO excited about all these races I have going on this year and feeling very motivated to keep running.

So, what's new with you lately???

  1. Losing my diamond is one of my biggest fears! I'm so glad that you were able to find it. Thank goodness I'm really good about getting it inspected (mostly because I love how it looks when it's cleaned!) Thanks for linking up with us!

  3. Your story just reminded me to pay my yearly insurance on our jewelry. That gave me a mini heart attack but so glad it was found!

  4. I am always terrified of losing my rings.I am constantly checking for them. I even wake up in the middle of the night making sure they are still on my fingers! How do you like IIFYM? Did you have someone come up with what you are supposed to get or did you figure it out yourself? I had considered trying it last summer but never got around to researching enough to feel comfortable that I had the right plan for me.

  5. i used to get my settings checked yearly as recommended but i stopped wearing my rings since 2012! i always have to take them off when i work out and i'm so scared of misplacing them so i don't wear them anymore! they're safer at home.

  6. So happy for you for finding the diamond! My husband is a jeweller; I'm his sales & marketing partner extraordinaire. We've heard good & very bad stories about finding/losing stones. We offer an annual polish, refinish, and check-up for any ring purchased from us. YES, it is definitely a practice to follow. Another piece of advice - that I've followed since meeting him - have a safe, out-of-the-way, not-obvious place for your rings at home. Wear your rings loud and proud outside the home, but take them off as soon as you get home. All the things we do at home, clean, wash dishes, wash ourselves, our hands, our hair, cook, moisturize, etc. All these things have residue and build up that can affect the shine of your ring. Plus, you'd be surprised how many people get their claws on the setting caught in the sheets in their sleep and snap a claw or something. It's just a great habit to follow as well. Thanks for the book challenge shout-outs! And, your girls in the snow are darling :)

  7. Ahhh! I'm so glad you were able to find your diamond! I always worry about that, even though I'm covered with both a warranty and insurance. I always go in for the inspections every 6 months, and then I also send my rings away once a year to have them re-dipped (they're white gold), inspected, etc. They always come back looking brand new, but it does take several weeks to get them back, which kind of sucks.

The Nightingale is on my list for Erin's book challenge! I've never read any of Kristin Hannah's stuff either. How do you like the book you're reading so far?

I love yoga! I've been doing it at least 3 times each week, and it really does make such a difference! I'm glad you feel like you're getting a lot out of it.

I also need more time in my days ... I always feel like I'm falling behind!

I love the pictures of your kids. So cute!

  8. ooh that sounds like a really good month!! My engagement ring has seed pearls in it, and I lost one once... turns out they shrink over time and should be replaced yearly... I've only had to do it once... but goodness, yearly?! At least they aren't as costly as losing something like a diamond. Looking into that podcast and band now! I hope that you do get a mini getaway with your husband soon! :) Xo -Alexandra
